The Many Names of God

So the other day I was doing my devos, which is just spending time with God, and came across a verse that I’ve read many times and am sure you may have heard. It was 1 John 4: 4:

“You, dear children, are from God, and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

This verse was speaking specifically to false prophets, but I wanted to make this personal to the things I encounter on a regular basis.

“You, Tiffany, are from God, and have overcome insecurities, idolatry, envy, fear, rejection, and impurity because the one who is in me, is greater than the one who is in the world. That’s when it really home. I thought, do I really know what that truly means?

Have you had some sort of problem and tried to deal with it on your own? I’m pretty sure all of us would say yes to that. You know what that shows? That we all, at some point, have failed to understand the power of this verse (but grace.. ) The world tries to teach us that it’s in our nature to just figure it out, but what the world doesn’t have is the spirit of God within them.

Realizing this, I wanted to take this a bit deeper. When people talk about how powerful God is, I think we forget how much He truly is. Look at some of the ways God is named in the Bible:

"The Lord Will Provide" - Have you been waiting on provision? Or a new home? A new job? Fill in the blank and call on Him. He will provide (Jehovah Jireh)

“The Lord Will Heal” - “There is always an abundant need for healing. Healing in our bodies. Healing in our minds. Healing of our hearts. Call on Him. He will heal (Jehovah Rapha)

“The Lord is our Peace”- How many of you need peace of mind? Or peace in your homes? Or your job? Call on Him. He is the God of Peace (Jehovah Shalom)

“The Lord is our Shepherd”- He will lead us, care for us and never steer us wrong. How many of us need some direction, clarity and discernment in this loud world? I do! (Jehovah Rohi)

“The Lord is our Banner”- He is there to fight our battles with the enemy. And we alllll need that! (Jehovah Nissi)

This isn’t all though. The list goes on (google it! It’s encouraging!)

After taking all of this in, I thought why do I allow myself to increase the magnitude of my problems, people and even myself which inadvertently decreases God’s power?! We just talked about all of the things that God is, so why should I try to replace Him with any other remedy to fix me, my problems, or other people.

It’s time for us to put him in the position that he belongs in!

It’s time for us to give him the power back!

As I reflect on this year and prepare to go into a new one, I want to tap into THE ALMIGHTY, and walk boldly and strong- remembering that

No person, No enemy, No attack, No insecurity, No envy

Nothing!

is greater than the one that is within me….And you too!
